Abbie began dreaming of a space like HTX Clay over 10 years ago. After moving to Houston in 2012 and taking on several opportunities to teach ceramics, she began to notice a need from her students for more consistent ongoing studio time.
At that time, there wasn't a studio that was offering memberships with access to equipment and studio time without signing up for a class.
To meet that need, Abbie began to dream of the studio she wanted to open: a modern, inspiring space where on-demand teaching and open studio access can be offered for members of all skill levels.
In 2018, Abbie began her search for a studio assistant that could help her meet the demands of her growing business. Jess, a long time follower of Abbie's work, applied and got the job.
For the next 3 years, Abbie and Jess worked alongside one another and developed both a friendship and working relationship that seemed effortless despite the challenges of the pandemic.
After much reflection in 2020, Abbie felt like it was time to make her vision come to fruition. Having shared her dream with Jess before and knowing their combined passion for clay and sharing it with others, she approached Jess about starting HTX Clay together. Without hesitation, no really, NONE, Jess said yes and they began working on HTX Clay in 2021.
