  • As a member of HTX Clay, you will have access to ALL equipment, including wheels and glazes, during business hours. No rental needed!

  • Unfortunately, we’ve designed this space with adults in mind. At this time, persons ages 16 and older are welcome.

    Our downstairs space includes:

    • 10 pottery wheels

    • Two handbuilding tables

    • Member shelving and storage

    • A glazing workstation containing our 18 house glazes

    • Tools, underglazes, and commercial glazes

    • Two ADA accessible restrooms

    • ADA accessible parking

    • ADA accessible rear entrance

Please let us know if you have any suggestions that would help us create a more accessible space. We’d love your input! hello@htxclay.com

    • An inspiring space where you can find community and create on your own time

  • Not at all! All are welcome over the age of 16. Our community is filled with hobbyists, working artists, and everything in between. No experience is needed.

  • This means that there is always an instructor present to answer questions, provide guidance, or teach a lesson.

By adopting this model, our hope is to grow a community where all experience levels can work in the same space and each person feels free to work at their own pace.

If you would prefer to learn from one of our teachers during an uninterrupted two-hour lesson, you can opt to book an Individual Lesson with us.

  • Clay and bats are not included, but we have four clay bodies and two types of bats available for purchase on site.

  • Both! We chose to call HTX Clay “a space for the ceramic arts” because we wanted our members to feel unrestricted in how they choose to explore clay as a medium. We will have equipment and instruction available for both.

  • No. We have four clay bodies available on-site for purchase (B-Mix, B-Mix with Speckles, Cinco Rojo, and Porcelain) and do not allow outside clay to be used within our studio.

Members are able to store their clay in their dedicated storage space.

  • You are welcome to bring your own tools and bats.

Glazes and other materials that have been inspected and approved by our staff may be used. Please ask an HTX Clay staff member for more details.

  • Our Monthly Membership and Kiln Firing Membership both grant access to 6,000 cubic inches of kiln space per month along with other member benefits such as discounted rates on workshops and events and member pricing on kiln firing overages.

Drop-ins are able to fire pieces made during their time at HTX Clay at a non-member rate.

  • Our Monthly Memberships are designed for all experience levels, but if you aren’t ready to take that step or you'd like to jumpstart your journey with clay, we suggest booking an Individual Lesson with one of our teachers.

Individual and Group Lessons

  • Each lesson includes two hours of instruction from 1-2 dedicated teachers.

    We provide:

    • Clay

    • Bats, if needed

    • Aprons

    • Refreshments (coffee, tea, and water)

    • Trimming, glazing, and firing of up to two pieces per participant

You may bring additional snacks and drinks. Shipping of your finished pieces is available.

  • Each of our teachers are experts in ceramics and we are confident that you will have a great lesson, no matter who you choose!

Many of our teachers have an online presence for their personal work in ceramics if you feel inclined to check them out.

  • Wheel-throwing is the process of shaping and forming clay using a pottery wheel. Handbuilding is using your hands and various tools to shape clay to create a piece. The most common handbuilding techniques are pinch pottery, coil building, and slab building

Workshops and Events

  • You can expect to find workshops led by local and national artists covering a wide range of topics. In addition, you can expect to see collaborative workshops through which we partner with other small businesses in Houston.

Annually, we will host a Member's Exhibition (open to the public) and the HTXC Holiday Social (exclusive to members and their friends and family). We will also participate as a host studio in ClayHouston's Bayou City Clay Crawl (open to the public).

Our calendar of upcoming workshops can be found on our website.

Drop-ins

  • By dropping in with us for a half day ($35) or full day ($45), you gain access to our 3,360 sq ft facility, equipment, glazes, and tools.

Clay experience is required in order to drop-in. Clay, bats, and kiln firings for work created in our space are not included, but are available for purchase. Storage space is not available for drop-ins.
